"Dining out CHINESE Style"
12-1-02

The top of the day to you

I hope you had a terrific Thanksgiving. I spent the time with family and a load of my sister in law's friends down in New Symrna Beach with a heap to eat. And I blew it this year and paid the price. I fell asleep right after it on a sofa or as they say in Canada, "The Chesterfield". No desserts, but this is the first year I ate a Protein and a Starch together. Not cool for my message. But what we do from Christmas to New Years doesn't matter too much. It's what we do from New Years to Christmas that really makes the difference. So I know not to do that again for the end result was too much of an aggravation for the next couple days.

Anyway, I was on my way home tonight after a good bike ride and I saw where they opened a brand new Chinese Buffet right down the street from me. I had to go down to get some groceries and when I was on my way back home I thought I would stop by and see what all the commotion was about with this new Chinese Buffet with all the streamers and people waiving as you rode by.

I went in and my hunger pains were satiated with the smells and the exuberance of the waitress having me just stop by to look lured me into a meal. To my surprise, it was actually quite good. But not a place I would recommend as a healthy alternative to eating out. But if you are going to eat Chinese Food, is there a healthier way to eat it. And YES would have to be the answer here.

Since it was an evening meal, I decided to eat the protein they had. If you are going to eat at one of those places then this would be the least of the evils. And by the way, I was shocked to see that there was not one healthy looking customer in the place. I was overwhelmed with the obesity in the place. And boy they were going back for the 2nd and 3rd helping topped off with at least 2-3 desserts. I was amazed at how people will stuff themselves thinking they want to get their money's worth.

All I could keep on praying about was for me not to find fault or criticize in my mind as they all have positive traits as well I'm sure but I felt so bad for them not knowing how to go about it. I thought of how great it's going to be when I have my new Video Series out on "FOOD - how to shop for the cream of the crop! All the right reasons for the four seasons". Our newest Video Series "Is Your Diet A Riot?" is a done deal and really would like to see it in each of those folks hands to show them that you can eat out anywhere and get your money's worth in a more healthful way.

But here's a good evening meal at a Chinese Buffet. Eat 3-4 of the NON-STARCHY Vegetables along with a couple Fish dishes. They had fresh Baked Salmon and delicious String Beans, Broccoli, Cauliflower. One thing I've learned a long time ago and that's NEVER to eat Starches out. You can NEVER get good ones. So I give into the Protein Dishes. And Fish is one of those Protein Dishes I will have every so often. Just desert the desserts and definitely no starches and for goodness sakes avoid the soups. Lord knows what goes into them???

Sooner or later comes a crisis in your life, and how you meet it determines your future happiness and success. Since the beginning of time, everyone has been called upon to meet such a crisis.

A closer look will show you that most "crisis situations" are opportunities to either advance or stay where you are. Indeed most changes in your life will take place out
of either "inspiration" or "desperation".

Whatever comes your way, gives it meaning and transform it into something of value. Your personal growth is the process of responding positively to change. And since nobody likes change except a wet baby, we seem to give into the familiarity of punishment rather than embrace the uncertainty of change. I've sure enough learned this, that it's a whole lot easier when you want to than when you have to.

I was speaking with one of the ladies at the Thanksgiving Party in New Symrna Beach who had a stroke several years ago who smoked and didn't quit until it was too late. Now she carries an oxygen tank with her everywhere she goes and is using a walker to get around. What a bummer that would be to look forward to that in our Golden Years. Her husband said he wouldn't change his diet to save his soul. He just had a colostomy where he has a permanent bag attached to his side so now he can't take normal bowel movements. Man that must be a hassle. And still he blames the doctors for what THEY did to him not knowing he was in total charge of it all the time.

We get little stings in life and they are precisely what we need at that very moment and when we don't adhere to those stings, eventually we get stung and then we blame someone or something for that instead of accepting total responsibility. When I lost my business 3 ½ years ago and was totally penniless, I was devastated. But I now salute the divinity in that person for doing that to me as it's exactly what I needed at the time. As I'm 1000 times better off in the last 3 ½ years than I was in the previous 23 years in business with that I used to call "jerk" but now I consider him a blessing. We are in total charge.

A precious stone cannot be polished without friction, nor humanity perfected without trials.

Just like the state of our country's economy. It's one of the greatest times in our nation's history to improve ourselves. We are still the best and the greatest. We never get tackled unless we are running with the ball. Stay terrific!
