"CARBO-LOADING The Right Way"
2-3-02

Top of the day to you

I am always asked how I keep my energy soaring especially for those 40-60 mile bike rides I do each week. Also for the endurance stretch routines I do along with the lengthy jump rope routines I do.

I also have a pretty good speaking business that keeps me on the road a lot with all the planning and traveling that goes into it.

In the last 2 ½ years we've produced 23 audio learning programs, 8 new books, our brand new video series titled "Is Your Diet A Riot?" plus our Membership in our Inner Circle which really ties up a lot of energy with clients each week along with producing this weekly e-zine.

Now I tell you all this to let you know that this really requires a lot of energy without the exercising. So here's what I do to really stay jazzed for the endurance events. But first of all here's my training schedule:

Monday & Thursday = UPPER BODY workouts (Change per season)
SUMMER = Ocean Swimming, Pull-Ups, Dips, etc.
FALL & SPRING = Mixture of Isometrics & Calisthenics
WINTER = Weight Training predominately.
Tuesday & Friday = LOWER BODY workouts (Change per season)
SUMMER = More Runs; Walks with Lunges, etc.
FALL & SPRING = Mixture of Isometrics & Calisthenics
WINTER = Weight Training predominately.
Wednesday & Sunday = HIGH CARDIO workouts (Change per season)
= Hard Stretching Days (60 minutes each)
SUMMER = Jump Rope; Bike; Run; etc.
FALL & SPRING = Roller Blade; fun type of Cardio Sports.
WINTER = Winter Cardio Sports; Snow Boarding,
Skiing, etc.
Saturday = PLAY DAYS (usually the beach)

I stretch 7 days a week but 2 of them are HARD STRETCHING DAYS.

So from this training routine I change my eating schedule out a bit. The morning is ALWAYS FRUIT and NOTHING but FRUIT that's in season. Noon is the Starch Meal and the evening is the Protein Meal. But on Tuesday and Saturday Night I do more Carbohydrates on those days to get myself really prepared for the next day's Bike ride.

Now here's where this all fits in.

The other 5 evenings (Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday) I always have a predominately High PROTEIN MEAL that would include a salad with a cooked green vegetable and whatever source of Protein I decide on.

But on Tuesday & Saturday evening, I ALWAYS have a Rice Dish, as you will notice from one of my former recipes (e.g. Sweet Rice) and some String Beans & Pole Beans with an Asparagus Dish. This will serve you well for the next day's endurance event with energy to spare. The Beans act as a great source of Protein even though you have a starch dish (Rice) in there. It's an acceptable combination.

Just a side note here: Yams & Rice in my experience are the better forms of starches. And they are so versatile! And that's not to discount the wonderful qualities of Carrots, Beets and Parsnips! But the Yams and Rice really hold you over for the long haul with that burst of energy when you need it the most.

Nobody said that we always have to consume high contents of Protein all the time with the exception of the meat, dairy and poultry industries. I have encouraged all my athlete clients to do this and they do exceptionally well with this strategy…and you will too if you would like to give it a whirl.

All my best to you as you continue to strive to make health your first concern and not your last resort.

I have learned that the fox that chases two rabbits loses both. By focusing your efforts to a single point, you'll always achieve the greatest results. By concentrating your efforts on a few major goals, your efficiency will soar, your projects will be completed, and you'll be going somewhere.

The first law of success is concentration. Bend all your energies to one point, and go directly to that point, looking neither to the left nor the right.

Focus totally on the business at hand and command yourself to do exactly what you want to do.

If you focus the full power of all you are on what you have a burning desire to achieve, you'll attain success.

PS Some final thoughts:

Thanks once again to Nick Fry in Traverse City, Michigan one of our Platinum Inner Circle Members for his tireless efforts to keep me up to speed with editing our e-zine each week. His editing service is about as reasonable as you could get. So glad to have you Nick and I know everyone else is too as I have had no complaints about the mistakes I used to make at two in the morning when I finished it each week!
